Olivia "Liv" Scott

she/her/hers

Director

Strengths:

Liv is an advocate, and passionate about supporting small businesses, self-employment, and neurodiversity. Liv's passion and attention to detail creates a unique combination to help business owners tackle problems and challenges head on. Liv loves to educate people on tax and business issues because knowledge is power!

Background:

When Legal Junkie And Fiber Enthusiast Collide:
After passing the DC Bar, Liv loved tax law so much that she signed up for an extra year of law school to specialize. Liv received her Masters of Law (LLM) in Taxation from Georgetown University and went on to work for places like Bloomberg, law firms, a big accounting firm, and as a staff attorney at a nonprofit law firm. Liv represented both individual and small and large businesses before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the U.S. Tax Court. Because of Liv's background in tax law and legal research, she is in a unique position to help members with the nitty gritty details of owning and running a business.
Liv also has a history of community building. Before leading the FBC, Liv founded NeuroStitches, a free online community connecting neurodivergent folks through fiber arts. NeuroStitches currently has over 400 members and hosts weekly events like Stitch Nights, Body Doubling, and Peer Support Group Meetings.

Something you should know:

Liv believes that collective success is the key to your individual success, creating a better industry, and work environment. Small business owners or solopreneurs can often feel isolated but as a member of the FBC, your success is our success. In the FBC we are open, transparent, and vulnerable about our businesses. No question is too small or too big, and you benefit from the knowledge of brand-new business owners to the wisdom of entrepreneurs who've been in the industry for decades.
As an FBC member, you get the best of both worlds: you are your own boss while having virtual "colleagues" to brainstorm and problem-solve. Liv is passionate about the FBC because when we focus on collaboration, not competition, we all succeed.

Outside of the FBC:

When Liv isn't working in her role with the FBC, she's leading NeuroStitches, designing crochet patterns, and knitting and crocheting amongst her husband (and best friend), 3 dogs, and 2 cats. She's passionate about craftivism, advocating for neurodiversity and small businesses, and her chosen home of Asheville, North Carolina.

You can find her patterns or sign up for NeuroStitches at the Website button on this page.
